Polymetals begins staged restart at Endeavor mine

Australian miner Polymetals Resources said on Thursday that it had started a staged resumption of operations at its Endeavor silver/zinc mine near Cobar, New South Wales, following a fatal incident last week that claimed the lives of two employees and injured another.

The company confirmed that rostered mining, maintenance and processing crews had returned to dayshift operations, with a transition to continuous shift planned in the coming weeks.

The accident, which resulted in the deaths of Holly Clarke and Patrick “Ambrose” McMullen, occurred during the setup of a ballistic disc used to release a stope hang-up. Mackenzie Stirling, who was injured in the explosion, is continuing her recovery at home.

Polymetals said the area where the explosion occurred remained under a statutory non-entry notice, while investigations by the NSW Resources Regulator, NSW Police, and independent mining experts continued. The company was cooperating fully and working with regulators to manage access to the affected area.

Before blasting resumes, Polymetals would undertake a review of its safety management system related to the handling and use of explosives, implementing any necessary improvements identified during the process.

Executive chairperson Dave Sproule expressed gratitude to the community and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to safety and recovery. He added that resuming operations was important for employees and their families.
